I’ve been doing this for over 4 years and most of my websites come from folks that have already hired at least one designer. I’m happy to have the business, but I thought I would let those of you who are still looking for the right designer some of the pitfalls to avoid.
First, Don’t EVER EVER pay someone without a contract. Not only that, make sure your contract has several factors:
- Make sure that there is a time factor in the contract. The #1 complaint that I get is that someone has spent A LOT of money to get a website and after months, still nothing. You’ve not only lost your money, but you’ve lost the opportunity to make more money through your website.
- Make sure that the contract states what is to happen to the money if the contract is not fulfilled.
- Make sure that the contract states exactly what you are getting and what you are paying for. For example, does the price include revisions? If so, how many? Does the price include a yearly hosting charge? How much is that? Etc., etc., etc.
